Diamond ring white gold

 

White gold has become very popular as a substitute for yellow gold in wedding rings.  White gold is actually not white at all when first made, it is mixed with either Nickel or Palladium.  Depending on what it is going to be used for determines what other alloy the gold is going to be mixed with.  If it is going to be a ring then the best idea would be to mix it with Nickel.  If it will actually be the gem stone setting the gold should be mixed with Palladium because it is softer and more pliable.  When gold is mixed with either of these 2 alloys it does not come out true white though, but a light brown color.  That is why all white gold jewelery is coated in rhodium and that gives it the real white color.

Now the diamond is considered a mineral, there are many colors of diamonds, shapes, sizes and other things that determine how good the diamond is.  Diamonds have been a popular gemstone for a long time.  Scientists have determined that they have been mined for around 3,000 years in India,  and have been charished by people from there for just as long.  Scientists have also discovered early use of diamonds in engraving tools found at dig sites.

 

The most popular use for diamonds for centuries though has been for the use of adornment.  This is thought to be because of how rare diamonds can be and the way light shines through them.  Scientists and geologists have been able to calculate the worth of diamonds through carat, cut, color, and clarity,  also known as the four C's.

• The carat is a weight measurement not only for diamonds but all gems and pearls.  One carat is equal to exactly 200mg, 0.007055oz or 3.086 grains.  This unit of measure for all gems and pearls are the same all over the world and is one of the only forms of measurement to do so.
  

• The cut of the diamond or gem is dependent on how big the gem is and the shape of it before it is cut.  Depending on the cut it may increase its value, but it is said that when you get a gem cut or shaped it reduces the carat weight by about 50%.  There are many different styles of cuts and here is a list of them in alphabetical order.

• Color is another determination on how expensive the diamond will be.  A perfect diamond has no color and no imperfections, but that is almost impossible.  It is very, very rare to find a diamond void of all color and imperfections.  But perfect diamonds are not the only expensive types of diamonds.  There are diamonds call fancy colored diamonds.  The rarest of all fancy colored diamonds is considered a red diamond.  There is a list of the color ranges of a white diamond.

• Clarity is the final characteristic in determining the rarety of a diamond.  Clarity is determined by what is on the surface and what is inside the diamond.
